Tip

These distributions share the vast majority of commands and configuration methods. Unless otherwise noted, tutorials on this site apply to all of the above distributions.

Reading Conventions

This site follows these conventions:

• In command examples, $ indicates execution as a regular user, # indicates root privileges are required
• Commands requiring root privileges use sudo by default
• Unless otherwise stated, commands apply to the EL 9 / EL 10 series (compatible across all distributions)
• Distribution-specific differences are clearly indicated with annotations or tab switching

Command prompt conventions

$ whoami          # Regular user
$ sudo dnf update # Obtain root privileges via sudo
# systemctl restart sshd  # Already root user
